1. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a website saves in your browser. Some are needed for the site to work, for example to keep a form secure. Others, like analytics cookies, record how the site is used, and we only set those if you agree. The same rules cover other ways of saving information in your browser, so this policy lists those too.

2. The cookies we use

Essential: always on

These are set by us, on this site only. They don’t need your consent, because the site can’t do what you ask without them.

Saved in your browser: only if you use the health check

Not a cookie: this is kept in your browser’s own storage and is never sent to us. It’s there so a feature you’re using works better, and you can turn it off at any time.

Analytics: only if you say yes

Set by Google Analytics on this site, and only after you accept analytics cookies.

We don’t use advertising cookies or any cookies from social networks.

3. About Google Analytics

Google Analytics tells us how many people visit, which pages they read, how they found us and roughly where they are (town or region). We use it to see which pages are useful and which need work.

Its script isn’t loaded at all until you accept, so nothing is sent to Google before then. It doesn’t keep your IP address, and the reports we see are totals, not individuals. If you turn analytics off later, its cookies are deleted straight away.

4. Services that see your visit

These don’t set cookies, but your browser does contact them:

Google Fonts. The fonts on this site load from Google’s servers, so Google sees your IP address and browser when a page opens.
Google PageSpeed Insights. Only if you use the website health check, which sends the address you enter to Google to run the test.

The Google reviews on our pages are copied to our own server, so reading them doesn’t contact Google. Our privacy policy covers everything else we do with personal information.

5. Changing your choice

You can see and change your choice in Cookie settings.

The same Cookie settings link is at the bottom of every page. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser:

If you block every cookie, the contact form won’t work, because it needs the security cookie. To stop Google Analytics on every website you visit, Google offers an opt-out add-on.

6. Changes to this policy

If we add or remove a cookie, we’ll update the tables above and the date at the top of the page. If we ever want to use a new kind of cookie that needs your consent, we’ll ask again before setting it.
