What is SEO?
The plain-English version

SEO, or search engine optimisation, is how your site gets found on Google and Bing without paying for each click. Our SEO services make your pages quick to find, quick to load and easy to understand.

  • Crawling and indexing

Google can only rank pages it has found and stored. We fix what gets in the way, from blocked pages to messy redirects, using our technical SEO audit checklist.

  • Speed on every phone

Slow pages lose visitors and rank lower. We keep yours fast against Google’s Core Web Vitals, by fixing the code rather than adding plugins.

  • Pages for real searches

Each service you want to be found for gets its own page, planned around how people actually search, with the titles, headings and links that on-page SEO depends on.

  • Structured data

Labels in the code tell search engines what a page is: a service, a product, a review, a question and its answer. Structured data helps them understand it, and can earn a richer listing.

  • Bing and IndexNow

Bing’s results also feed Yahoo and Microsoft Copilot. We set your site up in Bing Webmaster Tools and add IndexNow, so new pages reach Bing the moment they go live.

  • Watched and reported

We watch Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools for errors and new searches, track what visitors do, and tell you what changed each month, in plain English.

Is this you?

Most people who come to us for search or ads start from one of three places. Find yours, and you’ll see what we’d do first.

  1. A

    “Nobody finds us on Google.”

What we’d do first: Audit your site and its Search Console data, then fix what stops Google finding and ranking your pages, starting with the ones that bring work.

On UK Name Change, our own platform, Google clicks went from 102 a month to 6,141 in six months.
  2. B

“We pay for Google Ads but can’t tell what works.”

What we’d do first: Set up conversion tracking in your site, so every enquiry traces back to the search and ad that brought it, then cut the searches that don’t bring work.

On our own platform, Bing ads cost 93p a click, with 2.91% of clicks converting.
  3. C

“Our site is on Wix or WordPress.”

What we’d do first: Tell you honestly how far SEO can go on it. We only do SEO on sites we build, so we’d look at rebuilding it as a custom website, carrying your content and rankings across.

Not sure it’s time? Our guide to when to move off Wix sets out the signs.

Don't just take our word for it - here's what business owners say after launching their custom Django platform with us.

Seven questions, straight answers.

What business owners ask us before starting on search or ads, answered the way we would on a call.

How much does SEO cost for a small business in the UK?

It depends on your site and your goals, so we quote it after a call rather than from a price list. The price comes down to the size and state of your site, how many services and areas you want to be found for, how competitive your market is, and whether ads are part of it. After a free 30-minute call we write up what we would do first and what it costs each month. Any ad budget is separate: it is yours to set and is paid to Google or Microsoft directly. Monthly work is rolling, with a month's notice to cancel, so there is no long contract.

How long does SEO take to work?

Months, not days: as a rough estimate, technical fixes can show within weeks, while rankings usually build over several months, and the gains tend to last. Ads are the other way round: live within a couple of weeks, and they stop when the budget does. No one can honestly promise a position: Google's own advice is that no one can guarantee a #1 ranking, so be wary of anyone who does. What we can promise is a site Google can crawl, understand and load quickly, and honest reporting on what is moving. Our technical SEO audit checklist shows the fixes we start with, and the UK Name Change case study shows what steady search work adds up to.

Is SEO or Google Ads better for a small business?

It depends on how soon you need enquiries: ads bring visitors as soon as they are live and stop when you stop paying, while SEO builds visibility that keeps working. If you need work in the next few weeks, start with ads; if you can wait a few months, SEO tends to cost less per enquiry once it is working. Many clients do both, because the searches that turn into enquiries on ads show where SEO effort will pay off, and we will tell you which we would start with for your business. Our SEO checklist for small businesses shows what the search side involves.

How much should a small business spend on Google Ads?

There is no minimum, but as a rough estimate many UK small businesses start somewhere between £500 and £1,500 a month, depending on what a click costs in their trade. Clicks often cost from around £1.50 to £3, far more in competitive fields such as legal services, and Google's Keyword Planner, free with a Google Ads account, shows the range for your own searches. The better question is what an enquiry is worth to you: we start with a test budget, track every enquiry back to the search that brought it, and then put more behind what works. We run Google Ads and Microsoft Advertising, which covers Bing, and the budget is paid to them directly. Our guide to tracking website performance covers how that measurement works.

What does a monthly SEO and ads service include?

Work on the site itself, not just a report. SEO is added to your hosting and maintenance plan: technical SEO and Core Web Vitals kept in order, Search Console watched for indexing errors and redirects, and a new page or a rewrite each month, built around what people search for. Paid ads can be added too, with conversion tracking set up in the site and the ad budget billed by Google or Microsoft directly. Every month you get a plain-English report: what we did, what changed and what we recommend next. Our guide to on-page and technical SEO shows the approach.

Do you do SEO for WordPress, Wix or Shopify sites?

No. We only do SEO on the websites we build, because the fixes that move rankings are made in the code, and we can only promise that for code we know every line of. A website builder or a stack of plugins limits what can be changed anyway. If your site is on WordPress, Wix or Squarespace, we can rebuild it as a custom business website, and a Shopify store as a custom online shop, carrying your content and rankings across, and then take on the search side. Not sure it is time to move? Our guides to when to move off Wix and WordPress vs Django set out the signs.

Do you only work with businesses in Bristol?

No. We are based in Bristol and work with businesses across the UK. SEO and ads work happens in your site’s code and in your Google and Microsoft accounts, so it does not depend on where you are, and the free call works wherever you are based. If your customers search by town or city, we make sure your pages say clearly where you work, so you show up for those searches.
