Switching from Wix, Squarespace or WordPress

Most of the sites we build replace one on a website builder. Everything you have built up comes with you: the content, the bookmarked pages and the rankings, with every old address redirected. The monthly plan and the paid apps stop, because forms, bookings and reviews are built in.

  1. 1 A short call Thirty minutes on what the site has to do, who it has to win over and what it has to replace. No obligation, no tech quiz, and nothing to prepare.
  2. 2 A fixed quote in writing What we will build, what it costs and how long it takes. Most business websites land between £1,500 and £5,000, paid half up front and half before launch.
  3. 3 Two to four weeks on a staging site You click through it on your phone and your laptop and comment as it takes shape, with the old site still live until the day you say go.
  4. 4 Launch, then 30 days of fixes The redirects go live with the site. We watch it closely after go-live and fix anything free for a month. A maintenance plan can then keep it running.

Not sure it is time yet? Our guide to when to move off Wix sets out the four signs.

Don't just take our word for it - here's what business owners say after launching their custom Django platform with us.

Six questions, straight answers.

What business owners ask us before starting a website design project: what it costs, how long it takes, whether it is time to leave Wix, and what happens to your rankings, your content and your domain. Answered the way we would on a call.

How much does a small business website cost in the UK?

Most small business websites we design cost between £1,500 and £5,000, quoted as a fixed price after a short call. Pages, copywriting, photography and built-in features such as online booking move the figure; The Golf Cabin and Apple Tree Stays both take bookings and payments on the site itself. You know the full cost before we write a line of code. Our website cost guide breaks the figures down, and the online shops page covers what a shop costs.

How long does it take to design and build a business website?

Two to four weeks for most business websites, from the first call to launch. We build on a staging site you can click through and comment on as it takes shape, mobile-first and tested on real phones against Google's Core Web Vitals, and your current site stays live until the day you say go. Larger sites, shops and web platforms are planned in stages, so something useful goes live early.

Is a custom-designed website better than Wix, Squarespace or WordPress?

For a few pages online this week on a small budget, a website builder is the right call, and we will say so. Custom website design pays off when the site has to win work: it loads faster, ranks better, has forms, bookings and reviews built in with no apps to pay for, and is yours outright with no subscription. Our guide to when it is time to move off Wix sets out the four signs, and Django vs WordPress explains why we build the way we do.

Will a new website lose my Google rankings?

No, not if the move is handled properly, and it is the first thing we plan. We carry your content across, keep or improve each page's title and description, and set up a 301 redirect from every old address to its new page, so the rankings and links you have earned follow you. Our technical SEO checklist is the list we work through on every launch, and if you want the rankings to grow afterwards, that is our SEO and paid ads service.

Can I update the website myself after launch?

Yes, for the things that change often. Where a site needs it, we build a simple admin area for prices, opening hours, photos and news, with no code involved. For anything bigger, send us what needs changing and we make it: as part of a maintenance plan, which includes monthly hours for updates, or as a quoted one-off job. Nothing is locked behind a builder's editor or subscription.

Do I own the website, the domain and the code?

Yes, all three. The domain is registered to you, the code we write is yours once the project is paid for, and nothing ties you to us: you can move to another developer or host whenever you like. If you would rather we kept it running, hosting, security updates, daily backups and uptime monitoring are covered by our maintenance plans. Every site in our portfolio is owned outright by the business it was built for.
